SCHOOLS

Introduction

The premier language schools in Toronto recognize that English, as a second language, is the passport to a successful future for their students, and that including a workplace internship adds value to the overall experience, in terms of the opportunity to practice the language of business, as well as the work experience itself, and its resume enhancing potential.

In addition, students and overseas sales agents are increasingly demanding internships as part of the overall package, and this add-on 'product' is becoming necessary in the highly competitive international marketplace.

We offer, in effect, an outsourced service to our Language School clients so that they can concentrate on their core product, while we take care of all the issues associated with the internship.

Operation

We discuss and agree with each Language School client a method of operation suited to the individual circumstances.

Generally, we will sit down with a student as soon as possible after arrival at the school, at which time we provide information on the A to Z of the internship process. We find out the preferred areas of interest, and explain what is possible in the context of the student's language skills and previous work experience.

We provide assistance with resume preparation and establish a timeline for the internship program. Intern organizations will not generally require an interview before accepting a student, because of their relationship with us. However, we accompany and introduce all students to their workplace supervisors.

We will make contact with students before their arrival in Toronto, if this is desired by the School, or its agent. We will also offer regular presentations to groups of students if a School wishes to sell the internship program after the students arrive in Toronto.

Managing students' expectations is probably the biggest challenge. We take care at the outset, and throughout the process, to communicate what is possible, which in many cases is different to what a student may expect at the beginning.

Our aim is to manage the internship process in a manner that requires minimal time input from the Language School staff.
