About Us

Toronto International arranges short-term work internships for ESL language students after they have completed their courses with selected International Language Schools in Toronto. The service is provided to the language schools, and is integrated with the students' language programs.

Bill Jermyn, President of TI, and Richard Creighton, Program Manager, have been involved with internship programs for youth in Canada and the US since 1989 and 2000, respectively.

Over this period, and through a number of different organizations, we have organized work internships for over 800 students, involving in excess of 400 intern host organizations, in Canada and the US.

We began to offer internships to ESL students in Toronto for the first time in 2000. As demand for this service has grown, Toronto International was set up to concentrate exclusively on customizing programs for the Language Schools and their students.

Objectives

The primary objective of the internship program is to provide an opportunity for the international students to better their social and business language skills through a short work experience with appropriate organizations.

The work experience is an integral part of the students' language program, and while providing them with valuable work experience, their activities in the workplace are neither designed nor intended to replace existing or potential employment positions.

The program also facilitates the development of relationships, which foster business, social and cultural links for the future.

Overview

The program involves short-term (generally 6 to 12 weeks) placement of language students with Toronto-based organizations. The students will typically be in their early to mid-twenties with a first-level university degree, in a business related area, and most will have some prior work experience. They will normally have completed 2 to 3 months of language training prior to the internship.

The majority of students come from Latin American, Mexico, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia.
